Guest Post:: Over the Top Beach Houses

I'm so excited to have another guest post from Arcadian Lighting, this time from Reyna! Be sure to go check our their blog too for some design inspiration!

Beach houses and cottages are often characterized by their casual, laid back home décor. But who says that a beach house has to be boring and understated? In this gallery are several over the top beach house rooms. While the style is still obviously influenced by the beach or tropical living, the patterns, prints and colors push these already gorgeous homes into overdrive.

Sig Bergamin's beach home in Brazil is the stuff of legends. In it, he plays with proportion, with patterns and colors, and even mixes styles and ethnic home décor and accessories. Atop the antique wooden table in this sitting area is a large Buddha head sculpture. He mixes that with a Suzani print throw and a Chinese vase. It's beautiful and it's eclectic, and yes, it's a little bit over the top, but we still love it!

What better way to bathe than in a vintage bronze claw foot tub, and in full view of the ocean?

Here's another beach house room with a breathtaking view of the ocean. What's truly lovely here is that the designer kept a very neutral color palette, but played a lot with texture. A thatched roof, raffia Egg Chairs by Arne Jacobsen and a suede area rug are perfect accents in this perfect beach house.

At the deck in Donna Karan's West Indies' beach house is an enormous chaise lounge with an enviable view of the beach. The house is filled with gorgeous African and tribal details too, showing off Karan's enviable collection of wall art, sculptures, paintings and masks.

These people took the phrase 'going green' literally. Really love how beautifully the color has been integrated into this casual dining room. From the 12 Eames Molded Dining Chairs to the green table decorations, even the stone floor has a greenish tint to it.

The great thing about these over the top beach houses is how each homeowner has incorporated lots of art, color, pattern and relics/collections from their travels. They're on the beach away from the world, but they've bought the most-important things with them. And that's what makes each house a home.
